Best Sales Movie I’ve seen this year

Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year

As a sales consultant, I definitely  enjoyed this movie. I’m going to recommend it to all my sales friends, much better then “Glengarry Glen Ross”, “Death of a Salesman”, “Boiler Room”, or other negative takes on sales. This movie is about sales as a people business - really captures the heart of sales, and the value it can bring to peoples lives.

In the comments: What are your favorite sales or business movies?

PS:I watched this movie streaming from Netflix

Try a Phantom Mortgage to Trial Run the Expense of Home Ownership

Save the amount of your mortgage +50% for 24 months to test out the cost of home ownership.

As a financial adviser, I see very few cases of savers remorse, and they tend to be less sever then buyers remorse.

43% have less than $10k for retirement

This article has been on my mind almost every day since it came across my desk in early March of 2010. If your in the 43% who does not have $10k saved, or you know someone who is, talk to me. One of my life goals is to help people save money for retirement.

“The percentage of workers who said they have less than $10,000 in savings grew to 43% in 2010, from 39% in 2009, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute’s annual Retirement Confidence Survey. That excludes the value of primary homes and defined-benefit pension plans

Workers who said they had less than $1,000 jumped to 27%, from 20% in 2009.”

How A ‘Big Tent’ Can Be Too Big - Political anaylis by OK Cupid

Ok Cupid (A free dating site) did some political analysis on their uses. The site is run by math geeks who do some really great statistical analysis. I thought it told an enlightening story, both regarding how our political minds change as we get older, and from a strategic planning perspective on what the donkeys will need to overcome to move their objective forward.

And for the record - I trend libertarian, which means I’m not represented by anyone ;-)

Make sure to check the link for the full article (5 min read)

These lines contain a neat little story:

  • Both socially and economically, teenagers prefer an anything-goes type situation.
  • But as these teenagers grow up a bit and enter the job market, they quickly develop progressive economic ideas: perhaps a bit of “levelling” seems pretty good when you’re staring up the professional ladder from the bottom rung. Meanwhile, their youthful live-and-let-live social philosophy begins to fade.
  • In their late 20s, they start making real money. Economic progressivism goes out the window, preferably out the window of a building with a doorman. As the adult mind turns to more material matters, social views don’t change that much.
  • Finally, after the mid-40s, retirement looms. Our former teenagers check their collective 401(k)s and think, you know what, let’s all get checks from the government. Social views take a hard turn for the more restrictive. At the end of the journey, economic and social views are again in agreement—only this time on the other side of the philosophical line!

New Interest from Former Competing Agents

Interesting - I’m getting a lot of interest from fully licensed agents who were let go from competing firms over a year ago (financial crisis melt down) and are looking for a new home before their license expires. Do you know anyone who was let go in the financial services industry recently and might be looking for a new home?
